Daily Dance 2020 began as a year-long project designed to challenge and develop my improvisational dance practice. It has turned into a meditative practice; a reflection of how one incrementally grows. It is an extended love letter to the city of Baltimore with mini-romances in other locations as I occasionally travel. As the world around us has significantly changed due to a global pandemic, this project is an anchor in the chaos. With each passing day I am building strength, developing my movement vocabulary, and being present for life as it unfolds.
Below are the parameters I use to guide the project:
Make an improvisational dance and video document the work.
Dance in a different, outdoor location each day.
Photograph the site without my body in the frame.
Write a response immediately after the dance, remaining in or near the dance site.
Log the time and location of the dance.
Archive the video, time, location, and written response via YouTube.
I have organized Daily Dance 2020 into monthly playlists. To read the written responses and view photos of the sites, visit Daily Dance Blog.
