I took slowdanger's Sunday virtual class this evening. Today's dance was an attempt to harness the energy and movement from that experience. It's been awhile since I've done a night video. I like the way the light is captured in this shot. I am on Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. I had a specific site in mind but upon approaching it, I did not like the lighting. The blue light and the low lights are what drew me into this site. I'm feeling full... I ate quite a bit of home-cooked lasagna before heading out to dance. My hands and arms feel more activated in this moment than during the slowdanger class. I am wanting to incorporate staccato/punctuated movement. Perhaps like that of pop and locking but I'm trying to find the organic way in which it incorporates into my more fluid movements. The ground is textured, making smooth foot work more challenging. Someone walks directly through the frame. I don't recall falling into recoiled movements but rather, fully occupy my performative space. I was thinking earlier today on the meditative quality of this project. Something I have reflected on before. Coming back to that thought is grounding. It minimizes my need to qualify and quantify this work. Keeps me from trying to apply meaning. The meaning is there. Perhaps it will be in the review and reflection of the entire project that will help to uncover and clarify the meaning. Of course, meaning is relative. How you, the viewer, perceive the work can and will be different than what I put into the making and display of the work. Day one hundred forty-five.
