DAILY DANCE BLOG

5:50pm, above Wyman Dell near Art Museum Drive and Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD

Had my ass handed to me during the repertoire part of the TL Collective workshop. I am slow at learning choreography and my lack of training is obvious. I got frustrated and left the call early. Today's dance feels like I'm incorporating a little bit of what was absorbed today. The site is shaded and close to home. Today's heat was/is brutal. The workshop and other activities today got me thinking more about my intentionality with the project. I also feel like a bit of a fraud. Typical of my experience with trained dancers. I know I should consider challenging myself... but I also enjoy what it is my dance practice has become. Arms are important, especially in the way they are considered/treated. Are they weighted? How do they respond to gravity? Where are they extending from? More impulses to engage the core. Maybe it helps to remind myself that my value as a dancer is not in my ability to perform the movement of others. It is in my ability to explore and extract dance from my own body and in doing so, I am able to connect with other non-dancers... We all have bodies after all. Day two hundred two.
