It is raining and I had to find an awning. As I walked past R-House I started thinking about the potential of their awning as a site... too public. These aren't performances. They are live, improvisational dance in public. They are made for the camera. Anyway, I was on my way to a specific site when this one, The Dizz, became the destination. I didn't sleep well last night and had a long D.C. day. I feel good about the physical focus and intentional confinement. There were several people around in different capacities; Hopkins security, people in cars, people walking by... I can feel my body slowly shift as I am building this dance practice. I think after 2020, I won't confine myself to only the outdoors. Who knows where I'll be living anyway. My legs are feeling stronger as is my core. It feels like I'm wiggling a lot and I think it's because I am working my way into my body, into my movement. A lot of focus on hips and legs while I navigated this short stoop. This place is closed now... I like abandoned/leftover/vacant spaces. How to tune into a site more? Will I continue to use intentional confinement as a tool for developing dances? Day forty-three.
